This tutorial provides a step by step guide on how to disable Windows Automatic Updates. Windows Updates are automatic by default, and in some cases may cause some unexpected reboots or prevents you from installing your own software, simply because Updates are in progress.
- Connect to your Windows Server;
- Press Windows button + R
- Enter “cmd” in a field and press “Enter“
- Execute the command:
net stop wuauserv
You will see the following confirmation:
The Windows Update service is stopping
The Windows Update service was stopped successfully
There is an alternative method:
- Connect to your Windows Server;
- Press Windows button + R
- Enter “cmd” in a field and press “Enter“
- In the console execute the command ‘gpedit.msc‘;
- You will be presented with a Group Policy view, navigate to:
Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Windows Update
- Select and open “Configure Automatic Updates”;
- Select “Disabled” and apply changes.
